Gospel music is a genre deeply rooted in African American spiritual traditions and has played a significant role in shaping American music and culture. Both the U.S Congress and the Arkansas legislature has designated September as Gospel Music Heritage Month to recognize and honor the rich history, cultural significance, and impact of gospel music on American society. Music Moves is pleased to bring this national observance of Gospel music to Northwest Arkansas.
In honor of Gospel Music Heritage Month, Music Moves presents an annual Gospel Celebration every September in Fayetteville, Arkansas. Gospel Celebrations has featured gospel award winning artists like Fred Hammond, Byron Cage, Arkansas Gospel Mass Choir, LeAndria Johnson, and Lamar Campbell. Gospel Celebration is hosted by board member and Grammy-winning educator Dr. Jeffrey Murdock.
